What Is the Best Air Pistol You Can Currently Buy?
With so many to choose from it can understandably be a bit of a headache trying to find that perfect Air Pistol. I’ve hopefully taken a lot of the hard-word away from you as I’ve used my extensive experience in this area to give you a selection of the best Air Pistols that are currently available.

With any of these pistols, you can’t go wrong, they’re all excellent and you won’t be disappointed.
There are a few different ways that I rate a pistol:
- Special Qualities – are there any special qualities to the pistol that make it stand-out amongst the crowd?
- Aesthetics, design and all-round appearance. If you’re going to spend a lot of money on an Air Pistol you’re going to have for a long time, you want it to look good, right?
- Public perception – has the pistol been out for some time and what kind of public feedback has it had? There might be a gun just released that, on paper, looks great. But I’m not interested in that right now, I want to recommend to you a Rifle that’s been proven in the field!
- Cost – I’m not constraining myself to a budget here but if a particular pistol seemed to be over-priced, I did not include it.
Crosman American Classic Air Pistol
There’s simply no way we could compile a list of Air Pistols without including the Crosman American Classic.
It’s a single-action bolt design that shoots .177 caliber pellets and feels like it’s been around longer than me.
These days, it may not have the looks that some of the newer guns have but if you want something that’ll be around longer than you, that’s easy to maintain, accurate, reliable and well supported then look no further.
It shoots up to around 600 fps and has an easy-pump action.
Crosman Vigilante Air Pistol
Another from Crosman, the Vigilante is a .177 caliber semi-automatic air pistol.
It’s really easy to use, well constructed with its six-inch rifled steel barrel. The power plant is CO2 and will hold 10 shots before you need to worry about reloading again.
Not many people know this but it’s actually a dual-ammo pistol, so you also have the option of firing ball bearings if you so wish (for BB’s you will use a 6-shot BB clip).
It comes with fixed front sight and a fully adjustable rear sight. If you want something that not only looks good but has more options than the norm, this is a good choice for you.
Crosman 1322 Air Pistol Shooters Kit
Well, a full sweep from Crosman. I almost wanted to include another manufacturer in this list just to mix things up but at the end of the day, the best Air Pistols (at least in my opinion) are still made by this company.
The Crosman 1322 Air Pistol Shooters Kit is an ideal starter package. It’s a higher caliber than the other two guns as it uses .22 pellets and has a velocity of around 500 fps.
Its power plant is the multi-pump pneumatic system and is a single-shot pistol. This is an ideal beginner kit and considering the price and amount of positive feedback this thing has in the public domain it would have been wrong for me not to include it.
The kit comes with the Pistol (err obviously), safety goggle, a shoulder stock, an ammo pouch, and some pellets. What more could you ask for?
Conclusion: Best Air Pistol 2023
Why I chose the Crosman American Classic!
I tried so hard to choose something else but the Classic from Crosman is still the best in its class. It’s been around for years and years, it’s cheap and is still well received by those that use it.
It’s just a great pistol that you can have fun with plinking in your garden. It won’t let you down and actually the one I have was handed down to me from my Dad some years ago.
Perhaps I shouldn’t admit it but I’ve never performed any maintenance on it at all. Shocking I know but I just occasionally get it, shoot a few rounds and back it goes. It never lets me down and is always consistent. You couldn’t ask more than this from a pistol.
